The Vermont Fuel Dealers Association (VFDA) is a non-profit trade organization representing more than 200 heating fuel and heating service providers. VFDA also operates a training school for heating technicians.
Founded in 1963 as the Vermont Oilheat Institute (VOHI), VFDA’s mission is to advance the use of heating fuels and heating equipment, to promote the standards of installing and servicing of heating equipment, and to deliver educational programs to meet the needs of the membership. VFDA also encourages and promotes high standards of service and ethical conduct within the industry.
Matt Cota has served as the Executive Director of VFDA since 2007. Cota previously worked as a journalist and school teacher. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from California State University Northridge and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Communication from The George Washington University. In 2012, Cota received an Environmental Excellence Award from Governor Shumlin for promoting clean and renewable oilheat policies in Vermont. In 2011, Cota received the Vermont Business Magazine “Rising Star” award. In 2009, Cota was award the “Financial Services Champion of the Year award by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Cota is a current member of the South Burlington Development Review Board and a former Planning Commissioner in the town of Plainfield, Vermont.
